Senior Epidemiologist, Behavioral Health and Health Policy Practice Area
Dr. Sandeep Kasat, who joined Westat in 2014, is a senior epidemiologist in the Behavioral Health and Health Policy Practice Area with over 14 years of expertise in the field of substance abuse epidemiology (including opioids) and using epidemiological data to inform decision-making. He has directed nationwide contracts providing data, analysis, and research support to federal and state substance abuse agencies and workgroups, and developed a first-of-its-kind online data monitoring system for statewide substance abuse prevention needs assessment and planning. He leads Westat’s Opioid Topical Interest Group Data Subcommittee, under which he has analyzed multiple opioid-related datasets to identify health disparities and geographic hotspots. He continues to work on ways to organize and disseminate data to the right stakeholders addressing the opioid crisis. His recent work includes analyzing multiple opioid-related datasets (e.g. mortality, claims, PDMP) to identify opioid-related high risk areas and subgroups in Florida.
