Operation UNITE’s rural service area is marked by a high poverty rate and lack of opportunities, increasing the potential for drug experimentation by youth. Camp UNITE provides fun, interactive activities that immerse campers in leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving scenarios. In addition, introspective discussions and special presentations demonstrate the consequences of poor decision-making and enable campers to make good choices. Many youth who attend camp come from homes impacted by substance abuse. They are left with low self-esteem and a lack of positive role models — creating barriers for success. Camp UNITE empowers youth to live drug free and be leaders in their schools and communities, provides opportunities for young adults to serve as role models and mentors, and exposes campers to a college atmosphere, inspiring youth to pursue post-secondary education.
