This presentation will highlight key opioid-related indicators and data sources that stakeholders can use to assess and monitor the severity of the opioid crisis. It will specifically focus on how data from multiple sources and indicators can be analyzed and interpreted to identify demographic and geographic hotspots at varying levels (e.g. federal, region, state), and identify key drivers (e.g., risk factors) of the opioid crisis. Since the lack of real-time data is a well-known challenge, this presentation will explore how data findings can and should be supplemented through review of recent news, research and grey literature. It will also highlight Westat’s opioid data visualization and dissemination tool, and how this tool can be used to reach key stakeholders and target audiences addressing the opioid crisis.
