Patient Preference Elicitation Expert
Leo J. Russo, PhD is the Patient Preference Elicitation Expert in Pfizer’s Worldwide Medical and Safety Department. He is an epidemiologist by training, and had been in several epidemiology roles in the past 25 years, of which the last 20 has been with the pharmaceutical industry. His academic training began in the field of statistics, in which he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University. Leo went on to complete his M.S. and PhD degrees in epidemiology at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. Most recently, Leo has specialized in patient preference studies, particularly how they are an essential component for modern benefit-risk assessment of medical products. For Pfizer, Leo is focused on integrating patient preference studies into Pfizer’s drug development process. He is also engaged externally with public-private partnerships, such as IMI-PREFER and CIOMS XI, on how to incorporate patient preference information into regulatory and health care payer’s decision-making.
