Pharmaceutical in vitro dissolution testing is used for performance testing of a broad spectrum of different dosage forms either in development or in quality control. The experimental concept is to expose the dosage form to a defined volume of aqueous medium under controlled conditions, which is including the composition of the medium, its temperature, and its mechanical agitation. In contrast to the results available, the actual study is using an oscillator-controlled vibration source to which the entire apparatus is exposed and elucidates the propagation of the vibration pattern as a function of its frequency along the surface of the vessel plate and the effect of a selected frequency on the dissolution rate of USP prednisone reference tablets in the different vessels. In order to reduce the variability by sampling, filtration, and liquid handling a fiber optic device is used to quantify the amount dissolved directly in the vessel. This session will discuss the details of the experiment and the subsequent results.
