The purpose of this project is the design, formulation and in-vivo of 3D printed Dexamethasone Polypropeylene fumarate (PPF) biodegradable stents for vascular applications. The manufacturing of carotid artery stent adopts microstereolithography additive manufacturing technology along with moulding techniques. 3D printing technology could revolutionize the pharmaceutical formation field via concise size properties and release profiles. In-vitro evaluation of the stents was performed using mechanical characterization, surface examination using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and determination of drug release profile using modified vessel like flow through cell. Blood-stent interaction was evaluated by hemolysis test and platelet aggregation test using SEM. The PPF stents were in-vivo evaluated and compared compared to stainless-steel stents in a dog animal model to evaluate thrombus formation probability & polymer effect on blood vessel wall. PPF proved to be a promising candidate for formulation of a 3D printed biodegradable drug eluting stent with good mechanical & biological properties.
