Nanomedicine is considered as a key enabling technology for future medicine by delivering drugs to patient in nanoscale. However, conventional multi-step nanomedicine manufacturing process are suffering from high cost, low productivity and poor scalability. We developed an innovative COMMAND nanotechnology that can transform current disconnected batch processes (six to seven steps) into a one-step solvent/water free continuous manufacturing for nanoparticle drug delivery system based on hot melt extrusion. The productivity is significantly improved by 100 times with maintained product quality, as well as 10% reduction in cost. It also allows good control on the particle size, drug encapsulation efficiency and drug release from nanomedicine formulations, with comparable efficacy from in-vitro study. We believe COMMAND will enable companies to accelerate the implementation of nanotechnology for new exciting nanomedicine and strengthen the ongoing effort in developing leading-edge healthcare via advanced therapies.
