This presentation will provide scientists and technical strategists with a detailed overview of the chemistry controls that exist within an exciting platform of bioresorbable polymers (BRP’s) and demonstrate how theoretical chemistry is coupled with advanced formulation knowledge in several different formulation formats including in-situ forming implants, microspheres/nanoparticles and pre-formed solid implants to deliver sustained drug delivery over periods of days, weeks and up to several months.
These control strategies will be examined in existing commercial products to highlight the breadth of release profile, types of molecules and indications, drug loading limits achieved to-date, successful formulation formats as well as going into some detail on the technical challenges beyond formulation including process consistency, stability in storage and sterilization. This presentation will also provide an overview of processing strategies as well as emerging techniques and advances in materials chemistry that pharmaceutical scientists need to be aware of in the state of the art.
For another perspective, the talk will also explore some medical device applications and exciting processing technologies for bioresorbable polymers in the development of cardiovascular stents and regenerative scaffolds that have potential for implementation in the pharmaceutical industry.
