Barry Long, BSc. Pharmaceutical and Industrial Chemistry, PhD Candidiate in Synthesis and Solid State Pharmaceutical Centre (SSPC), Bernal Institute, University of Limerick.
Received BSc. in Pharmaceutical and Industrial Chemistry from University of Limerick (2016). Barry is currently supervised by Prof. Kevin Ryan and Dr. Luis Padrela. Barry is currently studying supercritical fluid technology for the generation of nanoparticles of active pharmaceutical ingredients. His research focuses on the polymorphic control of API material using this technology in both batch and continuous operations.
In addition to controlling the polymorphic form, Barry is also attempting to generate new pharmaceutical compounds, specifically cocrystals, using batch and continuous supercritical techniques. Supercritical spray drying offers an opportunity to produce new compounds as antisolvent nucleation/crystallization can occur before atomization, influencing the polymorph/cocrystal that may form.
