This workshop will offer an overview of a practical integrative approach to working with clients who have complex dissociative disorders. Participants will learn how to promote integration by working with the client as a whole person system, rather than as fragmented parts. We will distinguish the four ways dissociation is defined in the literature, along with their different treatment implications. Participants will learn to distinguish between normal ego states and more complex dissociative parts, with treatment differences. We will discuss what is similar and different from the psychotherapy of other disorders. Participants will learn basic integrative principles and approaches for treating clients with dissociative disorders. A sequenced approach to working with dissociative parts of self that strives to meet the client at the highest integrative level possible will be discussed. We will identify common resistances and impasses and how to most effectively resolve them. The importance of working in the moment with process will be emphasized.
