Education Abroad Visas: Critical Updates for Study Abroad Advisers

This session provides study abroad advisers with updates on student visa procedures for France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and other countries. NAFSA Consular Affairs Liaison (CAL) Subcommittee members will lead discussions for each of the country groups.

Michele Arellano

Associate Director
University of Kansas

Michele Arellano has worked in Higher Education Administration since 1999 and more specifically in Education Abroad since 2002. She currently serves as the Associate Director-Student Services of Study Abroad & Global Engagement at The University of Kansas. Her main responsibilities are managing all student services functions including enrollment management, scholarship and financial aid processing and advising for study abroad. Previously, Michele was employed by the Financial Aid office at the University of Kansas and currently serves as study abroad liaison and main advisor to the Financial Aid office, Registrar’s office and Enrollment Management office on campus. She presents often on financing education abroad topics and has served on numerous internal as well as external scholarship review committees. As a member of NAFSA's leadership team, she currently serves as Chair of NAFSA's Education Abroad Regulatory Practice (EARP) committee and was the former Chair of the EARP Financial Aid Subcommittee.

Jason Sanderson, PhD

Assistant Director of Curriculum Integration and Assessment
Georgetown University

Jason Sanderson, Ph.D. is the Assistant Director of Curriculum Integration and Assessment at Georgetown University's Office of Global Education, where he has advised students interested in a variety of programs in Europe and Africa since 2004. He works closely with faculty on issues related to language learning abroad as well as curricular deans regarding program development and evaluation. Dr. Sanderson’s current research focuses on language attitudes and identity and his Master’s thesis focused on perceptions of sexual identity and study abroad. He is a member of the CUPA Academic Advisory Board, the Junior Year in Munich Executive Advisory Committee and represents NAFSA’s Consular Affairs Liaison Subcommittee on the greater Education Abroad Regulatory Practice Committee.

Joe Milostan

My name is Joe Milostan and I am the Education Abroad Director at Kansas State University. Previously at KSU, I served as the Education Abroad Assistant Director and as an Education Abroad Advisor. Prior to KSU, I was the study abroad outreach coordinator at Western Michigan University. Originally from Michigan, I graduated from Michigan State University, majoring in English and studied abroad in Florence, Italy. Upon graduating from MSU, I taught English to business men & women in Madrid, Spain, before returning to the US to begin my graduate program in International Education at the SIT Graduate Institute.

Cait Naberhaus

Education Abroad Coordinator
University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Cait Naberhaus is an Education Abroad and Data Coordinator at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. As such, she advises students on education abroad opportunities and procedures, guiding them from the initial program selection phase through the returnee phase. She also is responsible for implementing a portfolio of faculty-led programs housed within the College of Business and the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. In addition, Cait conducts outreach and advising for the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. The office’s resident process and data guru, Cait administers TerraDotta, collects and analyzes education abroad data, and prepares internal and external reports.
