Making Meaning: Reflection and Transformative Learning through Study Abroad Blogging

Thursday, October 17
2:00 PM - 3:15 PM
Location: Yellowstone

Reflection has been cited as critical to transformational learning, and blogs written by students while studying abroad provide an avenue for making meaning of their experience. This study examines potential outcomes of reflection through blogging during two different study abroad programs. Blogs were analyzed for linguistic differences and results showed similar patterns in analytical thinking, clout (confidence), authenticity, and emotional tone. These findings broaden the discussion on the use of reflection and guided prompts for study abroad transformational learning.
