This session discusses the latest "hot topics" on immigration-related issues facing international students, such as "bridge" change-of-status filings, current practical training issues, the status of USCIS's unlawful-presence guidance, and more.  Join experienced NAFSAns as we share practical guidance for adapting institutional practices and advising current and prospective students with these recent developments in mind.

David E. Gluckman is an immigration attorney and Director in McCandlish Holton’s Immigration Practice Group in Richmond, Virginia. His expertise includes temporary-visa petitions, permanent-residence applications for family-based and employment-based applications in all categories, citizenship, the immigration consequences of criminal convictions, and federal litigation of immigration matters. David is a NAFSA member and has presented at the last three NAFSA Annual Conferences and several Region conferences on hot immigration topics. Outside NAFSA, David regularly presents directly to students, faculty, scholars, and university administrators on immigration topics.

Jonathan Moore is a Director in the Immigration Practice Group at McCandlish Holton, PC in Richmond, Virginia. His practice includes advising institutions of higher education on U.S. immigration issues involving students, faculty, and researchers. He has extensive experience preparing temporary visa petitions for university faculty and employees (e.g., H-1B, O-1), as well as employment-based permanent resident green cards. He has particular expertise in preparing EB-1A Extraordinary Ability, EB-1B Outstanding Professor/Researcher, and EB-2 National Interest Waiver green card filings, as well as guiding clients through all aspects of the permanent labor certification process, including initial filings, supervised recruitment, audits, and appeals.

Lara Pfaff

Program Director, Project Development

Lara Pfaff has worked in international education since 2010. She currently serves as Program Director, Project Development, at International Student Services. Her areas of focus include international student orientation, student advising, and sunapsis. Lara also helps to lead the UA Refugee Project, a 100% Engagement Initiative that aims to develop intercultural competencies through community volunteering. Lara currently serves on the Region II leadership team of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, as conference planner-in-training. She holds a Master of Arts in Applied Ethics from Linköping University in Linköping, Sweden.
