Emerging Trends in Public Health
Sharing Session - 60 Minutes
NORC at the University of Chicago, in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has developed the Opioid Misuse Community Assessment Tool, which is an interactive mapping tool that displays drug overdose mortality rates, risk factors that contribute to vulnerability, and other socio-demographic and economic variables that may influence drug use, misuse, and overdose rates. Users of the tool can gather overdose mortality rate information for their county and overlay socio-demographic and economic information to identify patterns. It also allows users to create county fact sheets that can be emailed and/or printed to support county-level planning to address the opioid crisis. In this session, NORC will conduct a demonstration of NORC’s activities and products related to the development of this tool. NORC will also highlight complementary work conducted for the Health Resources and Services Administration featuring evidence based practices and models for community substance misuse prevention, treatment and response.
