Wellbeing (e.g. Youth, Community, Mental)
Pre Conference - 120 Minutes
There is mounting evidence that shows that arts-based interventions in community spaces can support positive outcomes in the social determinants of health. Whether it be a series of nighttime cultural festivals in Los Angeles parks that reduce violent crime or community-made murals in Philadelphia that bring stigmas of mental health and addiction to the forefront, health experts and artists are employing creative methods to engage communities through arts and culture and doing so to create positive health outcomes. Three health and art experts doing this interdisciplinary work in their respective communities will share their process and lessons on projects with proven health benefits. This workshop is part of a two-year policy project to increase such arts-based practices around the country, run by The Trust for Public Land (TPL) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).
