Sharing Session - 60 Minutes
Workforce development (WFD)planning is a critical component for organizations intent on assuring services meet the needs of their communities both now and well into the future; it is also required to achieve accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board. This session will describe new tools and approaches that were collaboratively developed by the Ohio State University and National Association of County and City Health Officials to support governmental public health agencies in these efforts.
Columbus Public Health will also share their role in this work, and provide a local health department (LHD) perspective on workforce development planning. Participants will: (1) describe Ohio’s overall accreditation support and workforce development planning project and involvement of LHDs in the final product(s); (2) describe the subsequent incorporation of online learning modules into WFD planning experiences in two states; (3) list evaluation results from both learning modules and the team-based guided planning experiences; (4) identify challenges and lessons learned; and finally, (5) discuss applications of the WFD products and approaches for writing or revising workforce development plans for their own agencies.
