Gun violence has become a common occurrence in the United States. Mass casualty incidents involving guns have also now become relatively frequent as well. This learning session involves three different jurisdictions' experience with gun violence and describes the role that public health played during the incident itself and how those jurisdictions have dealt with the ongoing recovery efforts of these mass shootings.
Pre-planning is vital to an effective response, including knowing and working with partner agencies that also will be responding. The presenters will also discuss the effects of those shootings on their citizens and health departments and the public health effort to protect their citizens. The presenters will also discuss lessons learned from these incidents.
