How well do you know your responsibilities during a jurisdictional emergency where you might be called on to coordinate ESF 8 functions? In response to a mass shooting at our local high school, our local health department (LHD) got a crash course in coordinating our ESF 8 responsibilities for our community.
Not all LHDs will have the same ESF 8 responsibilities as MCHD did during this event. However, most LHDs will have a role in the jurisdictional ESF 8 response to an event. While ultimately, our ESF 8 responsibilities were fulfilled, several lessons were learned. Because of these lessons learned, when future incidents occur that require MCHD staff transition into the role of ESF 8, we will be better prepared.
This session will highlight main points of our response, strengths of our response, and the key lessons learned from it.
