The funding of local health programs can be challenging. Determining where scarce tax dollars should be dedicated in the face of many existing and emerging public health issues can sometimes be a delicate balancing act. Determining the true costs of our public health programs is an important component of developing an effective and resilient financial management system for many reasons. Knowing how much it costs to run a program, including all aspects of that cost from direct to indirect, allows a department to make many valuable decisions.
