Sharing Session - 30 Minutes
Austin, TX prides itself on having a rich Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) culture. Nationally, LGBTQ populations face health disparities; however, there is little research with LGBTQ populations in Austin/Travis County. A 2015 community needs assessment conducted by Austin Police Department’s Community Liaison revealed several gaps related to reaching LGBTQ populations within the realm of control of Austin Public Health. These changes could improve health equity by reducing barriers to accessing and receiving inclusive health department services.
Participants will have reviewed Austin Public Health’s approach to increasing health equity for LGBTQ populations and will be able to identify specific strategies and tools to utilize in public health settings.
