This session will present a snapshot of homelessness in big cities across the country highlighting emerging and promising practices and policies related to health and safety issues that emerge as cities struggle to address both overarching housing affordability crises and the real public health consequences homeless encampments present. The speakers will talk about housing as a social determinant of health, but also outline the "traditional" public health challenges they are addressing such as infectious disease, substance abuse, and environmental health issues.
