Amy Hockett, PhD, MPH, CHES Public Health Epidemiologist; Linn County Public Health
Amy Hockett is the Public Health Epidemiologist at Linn County Public Health in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As the only Epidemiologist for the agency, Amy is responsible for monitoring a wide variety of public health-related issues and assisting in informing community action both within the agency and throughout the county. She has also recently been appointed as the co-lead for the agency's Performance Management System Team and as the chair for the data subcommittee associated with the Linn County Opioid Steering Committee. Some areas of passion include address of chronic disease conditions, sexually transmitted diseases, suicide, opioids, and social determinants of health all through the utilization of community collaboration and data.
She has held the role of Epidemiologist for nearly 5 years, but began her time with Linn County as a Health Education Specialist. Prior to working for Linn County, Amy served in public health in various capacities including as the Communicable Disease Manager with the Department of Defense in Guam, Community Engagement Coordinator with Mayo Clinic, Youth Violence Program Coordinator with the Minnesota Department of Health during her Master's Level Practicum, and began her public health career as a physician liason with the Minnesota Department of Health during H1N1.
Amy's educational background includes a PhD in Public Health Epidemiology and an MPH in Community Health from Walden University, as well as a BS in Human Biology from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist.
