Valentine, Paulette –is currently the Director the Emergency Preparedness Division for Southwest Utah Public Health Department. This rural health department covers 17,000 square miles with 280,000 people. The Southwest Utah Public Health area includes Beaver, Garfield, Kane, Iron and Washington Counties. Part of her mission is to identifying how public and private organizations operate together in an emergency, creating key values and shared vision and using these principles to guide actions, promoting team and organizational learning. She also assists the medical facilities in her region to maintain access to care. She continues to focus her efforts on personal and family preparedness and building a resilient community that will work together in a coordinated fashion when any emergency strikes. The drive through point of distribution (POD) as well as walk-up PODs, have been exercised for mass distribution of medication or vaccination under Paulette’s guidance for 13 years in cooperation with our local community partners. Currently Paulette has over 406 Closed POD partners to assist in SNS/MCM delivery to their patients, clients, inmates, staff and their staff families lessening the amount of people who need to come to the public health Open PODs for SNS/MCM prophylaxis. Paulette has also been working closely with At-Risk Populations and other organizations to increase the preparedness and response efforts for the function and access needs of those people who would need assistance in an emergency. The Access and Functional Needs (AFN) Coalition has been coming together for a year now with huge success. Paulette has helped orgnaizations, agencies and businesses, who have responsibility to support AFN persons on a regular basis, to have an emergency plan. These plans focus on communication, medication and medical support, transportation, supervision and independance as well as teaching personal responsibility for the AFN individual and AFN person's family.
