Allison has worked in chronic disease since 2005 beginning with coordination of youth weight management programs at Vidant Wellness Center (formally ViQuest Wellness Center). Working with families trying to make behavior changes led to an interest in Policy, Systems and Environmental Change (PSE) Strategies to support healthy behaviors. Allison continued her work moving to East Carolina University and working as the coordinator for the ECU WellnessCorps, an AmeriCorps program. The WellnessCorps program placed volunteers in settings such as afterschool programs to work with children educating them on healthy choices such as eating smart and moving more as well as leading them in physical activity. Allison then began work as the Worksite Wellness Coordinator for the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce in a position funded by the Pitt County Health Department through the CDC funded Communities Putting Prevention to Work Grant. This position focused on supporting local businesses in starting and enhancing wellness programs particularly focusing on PSE strategies. Allison joined the Pitt County Health Department in 2012 to become a regional (9 county region) coordinator for the CDC Community Transformation Grant Project focusing on Healthy Eating, Physical Activity and Tobacco Prevention strategies. Allison is currently the Health Promotion Coordinator for Pitt County Health Department. Allison coordinates the Pitt County Employee Wellness program for Pitt County Government and oversees the Tobacco Prevention, Minority Diabetes Prevention and Chronic Disease grants.
