Dr. Drue Barrett is the Lead of the Public Health Ethics and Strategy Unit and the Chair of the CDC Public Health Ethics Committee (PHEC). Dr. Barrett is the main point of contact for CDC’s public health ethics activities and, in collaboration with PHEC, works to strengthen infrastructure in public health ethics at CDC by sponsoring training and offering a public health ethics consultation service. Under her leadership, the Public Health Ethics and Strategy Unit has also developed training in public health ethics for local health officials, a global public health ethics casebook, and is currently developing a book on narrative ethics in public health. Prior to assuming the role as the Public Health Ethics Lead, Dr. Barrett served for many years on CDC’s Institutional Review Boards (IRB), and chaired one of the IRBs.
