Tobacco Control Programs Coordinator

Caitlin Kirkpatrick, BSN, RN is the Tobacco Control Coordinator for the St. Mary’s County Health Department. In this role, she coordinates and teaches tobacco cessation classes, provides case management, one-on-one smoking cessation counseling, and provides education to local retailers on the importance of preventing tobacco sales to youth. She also attends home visits with the asthma control coordinators, facilitates and conducts educational outreach to the community, and provides expert evidence-based information to the Tobacco Free Living action team of the Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership, the local health improvement coalition.
As a partner of the Tobacco Free Living action team, Caitlin works closely with students from Great Mills High School where she is spearheading a Tobacco Free Living Youth Team. This team has encouraged the student members to become peer educators on vape, vape products, and tobacco. She has also created a mandatory vaping citation class for high school youth who receive a citation for vaping on school grounds.
Prior to her current role, Caitlin worked as an operating room circulator nurse and a cardiac and stroke certified nurse at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.
