This session will use an entity-centric-model approach to examine the impact of consumer privacy regulations on businesses that use artificial intelligence for automated decision-making and individual profiling. We will outline four key operational impacts of the EU's GDPR that every entity (e.g. data controllers and/or processors) using AI-based systems should understand. We will consider one of the key impacts of the “right to explanation,” which requires an explanation of decisions made by AI algorithms, and the right to opt out to understand how GDPR hinders AI development and innovation.
As we step through key data protection principles influencing AI, we will highlight promising privacy-preserving machine learning methods that can help develop AI-based solutions in a privacy-aware manner and generate value for both data controllers and data subjects.
