Security Congress Abstract
Considering the spike of cyberattacks and the demand of information security professionals, there is a skill gap that we need to address. It is the lack of mentorships. We as panelists believe that we can energize the next generation through mentorship. Each member of this panel will share stories of successful mentorships throughout their respective careers and how they promote mentorship. According to Tech Republic, cybersecurity is projected to have a talent gap of 1.8 million jobs by 2022 due to lack of a revolving talent pool. The "skills gap" indicated by some statistics will be relieved once mentorships are widely adopted in the industry. When experienced professionals and peers freely share their knowledge, like members of a team, the entire industry benefits.
