State the overall Goal or Outcome : Several studies within the intensive care environment have shown that communication and conflict resolution are important factors in an intensive care setting where interdisciplinary teams work together. It has been noted that communication skills carry a great impact on the neonatal outcome. A great number of adverse medical outcomes are directly related to an ineffective communication especially in the NICU. Simulation based learning is the bridge between the medical Knowledge and safe practice and it is the best learning methods as proved by evidence. The Mobile Pediatric Simulation (MPS) Team is interested to introduce real-life neonatal communication scenarios which includes all possible difficult situations aiming to enhance patient safety and improve neonatal outcome.
The aim of this workshop is to enhance the competency in communication skills necessary for successful family centered care in the NICU. The workshop will subsequently minimize the adverse medical outcomes, enhance patient safety, and improve the overall neonatal health.
Intended Audience : This workshop which delivers an intermediate level of knowledge is mainly directed towards the healthcare providers including neonatologists, pediatricians, nurses, communication skills instructors as well as simulation educators.
Relevance to the Conference : This neonatal communication skills simulation workshop is a simulation-based workshop in which the participants will be face real life neonatal communication scenario.
The participants will take they will get in this workshop to the bedside. This will minimize the communication related complications in the NICUs and promote the overall patient safety and child health.
