Erosion and Sediment Control
Hurricane impacts on coastal highways often require emergency road construction to restore traffic flow. These repairs must be done in quick order using measures that will provide temporary stabilization of the road until permanent repairs can be scheduled. Anionic polymers (PAM) were used as part of the soil stabilization process to effect repairs along a Florida gulf coast highway project. The soft armoring BMP was very effective in holding sandy soil in place during this emergency repair and even survived the impacts from a second hurricane event. This is an update to a case history of the project with more recent details and provides better information as to how the PAM worked to enhance soil structure while vegetation was established.
