Russell M. Petrak MD, received his medical degree from Rush Medical College. He completed internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as fellowship in infectious diseases at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, where he received the Aesculapius award for teaching excellence.
Dr. Petrak has been in the private practice of infectious diseases for the past 20 years. He spent the first six years as a member of the teaching faculty at a Westside Chicago hospital and was promoted to Academic Director of Medicine, a position he held for three years. He subsequently left to start Metro Infectious Disease Consultants L.L.C. (MIDC). As one of the founding members and managing partner, Dr. Petrak has grown MIDC into a group comprising 30 infectious disease consultants working at over 50 hospitals in Chicago, Bloomington/Normal, Iowa, and Indiana.
Dr. Petrak is a Past Chairman of the Clinical Affairs Committee from 1999-2002, and presently a member of the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Task Force. He has been an invited faculty member of the IDSA Fellows meeting since its inception in 1998, and has perennially delivered presentations on “The Art of Infectious Disease Consultation”, and “How to Interview for an Infectious Disease Job”. He is passionate about the development and enhancement of the clinical practice of infectious disease in the community.
