As coaching becomes increasingly popular around the world, the diversity of coaching relationships themselves increases. Coaches are working with clients across boundaries, cultures and languages. While this can create rich and transformational experiences, it can also create some very real challenges for both the coach and the client. This session focuses specifically on ICF Core Competency No. 2 - Establishing the Coaching Agreement. In this competency, language plays a critical role. A mutual understanding in defining and contracting for a clear outcome ensures the remainder of the session is solidly based on the client’s agenda. This session includes a group exercise that enables attendees to identify their own language biases and brainstorm possible challenges experienced by clients who do not speak English as their native language.
