By studying the development of the industry of Taiwanese lacquerware, this study will discuss how to assist the traditional craft industry to survive, thrive, and preserve its unique culture, technique, and knowledge when the market demand is experiencing rapid changes. This article is divided into three parts. The first part is an introductory investigation. By studying reports from the media, it will take lacquerwares as the subject for the investigation and explore the current state of the lacquerware industry and historical materials about its development. The second part will investigate the key elements that influence the development of lacquerware industry and describe the process and model of development by analyzing the existing research literature about lacquerwares. Lastly, the third part will depict the problems and difficulties faced by the lacquerware industry through an analysis of the four stages of the experience economy. Moreover, based on the perspectives of the experience economy, it will also propose strategies which can build a more comprehensive supporting system to ensure that the existence and values of the craft industry will be passed down and preserved.
