Camera has been widely used at Chinese classroom and home since 21st century. Camera at classroom helps teachers observe and regulate their teaching behaviors as well as helps education administrators supervise the performance of teachers and students. Camera at home helps parents monitor childcare, guide children’s academic tasks and provide emotional comfort to children and parents. But what become “blind spots” in education practice are the lack of subjectivity of teachers and students, the substitution of performance for authenticity, the confusion of time and space and the “materialization” of children. They prove that camera is not only an instrument but also the embodiment of instrumental rationality which will bring us superficiality and blind obedience. Hence we should rethink education in the perspective of digital media: “Blind spots” cannot be eliminated by relying solely on the advancement of technology. Human being’s thoughts, experience, will and morality should be the main factors to determine education.
