Development and Urbanization
This paper deploys the notion of the anthropological frontier to study the intersection between agrarian change, identity formation, and peacebuilding in conflict-affected Muslim Mindanao, Southern Philippines. The paper presents findings of ongoing research into the making of a banana plantation in the town of Buldon. This particular banana plantation embodies the biggest investment to date in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The case study material explores the material, discursive and affective production of a “post-conflict” frontier space in and through which the process of plantation-making unfolds itself.
