This project geomaps images of European cities as presented in Bollywood films since the 1960s and seeks to begin with a methodological reflection on how should we study such presence. This project employs available data on Indian tourism in Europe from existing online databases in conjunction with an offline database composed of a list of Bollywood films that used European cityscapes in their story. The scope is to build a solid narrative that informs how these two phenomena are correlated, ad what do they produce beyond a mere comparison. By using a data-visualization approach that will bring together diverse types of data, the project will investigate the historical, cultural and geographical influence that Bollywood cinema had in constructing ideas of foreignness in India, and as a result, explain trends in human mobilization.
