The aim of this study is to illustrate the change in preference regarding work and family and to explore the factors of the change. This change in preference affects employment behavior and care behavior. Additionally, the preference is expected to change depending on the life stage, for instance, you want to reduce your work load and focus on childcare. I will describe the change in preferences by using empirical data, and demonstrate when and how preferences change. Furthermore, I will consider whether the degree of temporal change depends on workplace environment. In this study, I used the Japanese Life course Panel Survey (JLPS) datasets. Preliminary analysis revealed that the life event of marriage has significant influence on individual preferences. Further, I found that work preferences change over time, but this change varies with the degree of flexibility allowed to you to adjust your work according to your family life.
