Practicing forensic nurse for nearly 20 years, Dr. St. Germain has been a death investigator, nurse examiner for child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, and elder abuse. She has educated undergraduate nursing students for 19 years about forensic nursing through a two-hour nursing elective at LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing. Currently, she chairs the Training and Evaluation Committee of the New Orleans Human Trafficking Task Force. Through multidisciplinary collaboration with social service; local, state, and federal law enforcement, and healthcare agencies model protocols for screening and intervention have been created and implemented. However, evaluating these efforts is essential to truly meeting the needs of survivors and not causing additional harm in the process of helping. Dr. St. Germain has presented locally, regionally, and nationally. In addition, she has planned, implemented, and instructed hundreds of continuing education events.
