Many financial planning practices are run by people who have become "accidental business owners", unprepared and untrained for business leadership and management. This session will provide attendees with ideas on how to become a more intentional business owner and leader through the exploration of key skills and strategies that successful businesses utilize. Skills such as self-awareness, transparency, strong communication, strategic vision and process adherence are at the heart of what creates a strong business, excellent leadership and engaged team members. The session will also share existing tools and programs that business owners can use to help build these skills.

Learning Objectives:

• Increase participants self-awareness of their strengths and biases and the impact those have on the business, their employees, client relationships and the management of the business.
• Identify 5 key skills needed as an intentional business owner and leader: self-awareness, transparency, strong communications, strategic vision and process adherence. Also identify resources to support becoming a stronger manager and leader.
• Learn how to build a self-managed team through assessments, accountability, strong strategic planning and the investment of time that the owner/manager makes in mentoring/coaching/managing their employees.
