Dr. Liz Perpetua is a board certified acute care nurse practitioner with nearly 20 years of experience in cardiology. She specializes in program development and patient care for structural and valvular heart disease. She received her Masters and Doctoral degrees from University of Washington. Dr. Perpetua’s work in structural heart began in 2007 at Swedish Medical Center. There she served as lead nurse practitioner; sub-investigator for TAVR, MitraClip, Watchman and CardioMEMS clinical trials; and ultimately as Structural Heart Program Director. In 2013, she was recruited to University of Washington Medical Center as Director of Structural Heart Services, Associate Director of Cardiovascular Emerging Therapies, and Structural Heart Fellowship Co-Director. In 2016, Dr. Perpetua founded Empath Health Services LLC, which provides program evaluation and tech-enabled consulting and coordination services for Heart Institutes.
Passionate about education, Dr. Perpetua has trained over 2000 nurses, physicians, and administrators in structural heart disease and therapy. She’s been an invited faculty speaker for the national meetings of ACC, American Society of Echocardiography, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, TCT, and TVT. Dr. Perpetua is presently the the Co-Chair of TVT’s Cardiovascular Team Symposium as well as a founding member of the ACC Cardiovascular Team Structural Heart Workgroup. She has published manuscripts in peer reviewed journals and served as an Editor for the first textbook on TAVR program development. Dr. Perpetua was recently appointed to the role of Associate Editor for Structural Heart Journal, and is the only non-physician to serve on the Editorial Board. As faculty for Seattle Pacific University, Liz currently teaches professional leadership and population health to doctoral nursing students. Amongst all this, her #1 passion is her family: her husband Carlos and two sons, 13-year old Carlos and 11-year old Mateo.
