William J. Nicholson, MD is an Interventional Cardiologist with Wellspan Cardiology at York Hospital in York, Pa. He is Director of the Interventional Cardiac Catheterization Lab at York Hospital as well as Director of the Complex PCI Programs and the Structural Heart Programs for Wellspan Health. He also serves as the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Labs at Gettysburg Hospital and Hanover Hospital. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Interventional Cardiology at Emory University Hospitals in Atlanta, Georgia. He is also on the staff of the Milton S. Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute at Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey, PA. He is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease as well as Interventional Cardiology.
Dr. Nicholson completed his Cardiology Fellowship at Emory University Hospitals in Atlanta, Ga. While at Emory, he received an NIH/NRSA grant for basic science research. Prior to his interventional fellowship, Dr. Nicholson completed his Internal Medicine residency at Brown University Hospitals, Providence, RI, where he served as the Chief Medical Resident from 2001-2002.
Dr. Nicholson is an expert CTO operator and, as such, is an invited guest operator and lecturer at numerous national and international conferences and hospitals. He serves as a clinical proctor for Abbott Vascular, Boston Scientific, and Asahi Intecc. He has conducted televised courses in CTO training from York Hospital. He is Co-Investigator for numerous clinical trials and also serves as a manuscript reviewer for multiple interventional cardiology journals. He has been an invited contributor for several book chapters and journal editorals. His areas of clinical interest in interventional cardiology in addition to Chronic Total Occlusions include ASD/PFO closure, TAVR, Mitral Clips, and complex PCI.
