George W. Vetrovec MD, MACC, MSCAI Professor Emeritus, Virginia Commonwealth University
Dr. Vetrovec received his BA (Phi Beta Kappa) and MD degrees from the University of Virginia: Internal Medicine (Chief Resident) and Cardiology training at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). During a 39-year career as a VCU faculty (AOA), Dr. Vetrovec was director of the Catheterization Lab (38 years), Chair of Cardiology (18-years) and Associate Chair of Medicine (23-years). Dr. Vetrovec encouraged philanthropy, culminating in naming the VCU Pauley Heart Center.
Dr. Vetrovec is a past Trustee and President of the SCAI, past Trustee of the ACC and served on the AHA Board. He co-chaired the SCAI/ACC Interventional Board Review (first 5-years). He also served on the ABIM Cardiology Exam Committee. Scholarly work has focused on Coronary Disease, particularly Interventional Techniques, resulting in two texts and over 300 manuscripts. He serves on multiple editorial boards. Dr. Vetrovec is a Master of the SCAI and ACC. He presented the SCAI Founder’s Lecture 2013. In 2014 Dr. Vetrovec received the VCU Presidential Medallion. He is currently a VCU Emeritus Professor and continues active as a Medical Consultant.
