Steven R. Schwartz, DDS is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, in the private practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Director of Surgical Implantology in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center and was a Senior Attending Surgeon, and member of the teaching faculty in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Brooklyn Hospital Center.
He is a Fellow of: American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and an active member of: Academy of Osseointegration, American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Second District Dental Society and several local dental organizations.
Dr. Schwartz is a graduate of New York University College of Dentistry and completed his post graduate training in General Practice Dentistry, General Anesthesia, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the following institutions: Booth Memorial Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital Center, Manhattan VA Medical Center, Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center, Interfaith Medical Center, Staten Island University Hospital and St. Vincent’s Hospital.
He is certified by New York State to administer general anesthesia in an office setting. Based on his expertise and training, he authored the chapters entitled: “Short Implants: Are They a Viable Option in Implant Dentistry?” in Dental Clinics of North America, “Perioperative Pain Management” in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America and “Oral and Parenteral Sedation” in An Atlas of Minor Oral Surgery.
Dr. Schwartz practices the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with emphasis in Implantology (including immediate placement, alveolar ridge expansion, sinus grafts and soft tissue grafts), Dentoalveolar, Orthognathic and Reconstructive Surgery, Facial Trauma and Tempromandibular Joint Disorders and has lectured at various study groups, medical centers, dental societies and symposia on these and other topics locally, nationally and internationally.
Dr. Schwartz has spearheaded a community outreach program in Brooklyn and has spoken at charitable organizations, libraries, community groups, senior centers, parent organizations and employer groups regarding oral surgical care.
When not practicing surgery, he and his wife, Beth, can be found somewhere in the world pursuing their love of scuba diving, underwater photography and wine collecting.
