A safe journey from the factory to the point of sale.
In the previous transparency session, Transparency in Materials, the issue of how materials should provide information about their contents and safe use was addressed. In the same way, as transparency is a holistic principle, we ought to ensure that the product from the venue and time of production to its destination is traceable and its handling and shipping is safe for people and the environment.
A program called GPP (Good Phytosanitary Practices) was put in place through a partnership of the Ceramic Tile Distributors Association and Italian tile companies to ensure such good practices for a safe handling and shipping of products overseas. It is a best practice used as an example by the experts at NAPPO (North American Plant Organization), at whose annual meeting it was recently presented. Understand the benefits of the program and the success its transparency has achieved.
