Like Europe, the US faces an uncertain future in terms of population growth. On the one hand, some studies point to an increase in population coupled with an exodus to large cities that will lead to a concentration of more than 70% of the population in urban areas. On the other hand, more recent studies bet on a stagnation of the population in large cities, although they highlight the imminent depopulation of rural areas, a progressive ageing of the population due to increased life expectancy, and a progressive decline in the birth rate.
The proposed scenarios point toward the necessity to implement new patterns of growth and social welfare much more sustainable, which are encompassed under the concept of Smart City, or when we incorporate the rural areas, Intelligent Territories. Like many other materials, tile has an exceptional opportunity to position itself, valuing not only its traditional functionalities that has led it in the past to occupy this space, but also evolving and giving the best of itself with adaptive, functional, customized surfaces, etc. that align with the challenges that have been defined, thus helping to overcome them.
Join us for a general introduction to Smart Cities and their link with the world of materials, followed by an analysis of the challenges and objectives already detected by European and national platforms linked to Smart Cities and the world of coating materials (EIP-SCC, MAPERPLAT, GICI, etc.). Commercial products and possible innovative product development proposals will be discussed with the objective of encouraging innovation aligned with the challenges and objectives of Smart City challenges and objectives.
