John M. Torrens, PhD., President of Vertical Bioscience, and Professor of Entreprenuerial Practice at Syracuse University's Whitman School of Management is a healthcare and education entrepreneur with 25 years’ experience leading high growth companies, an Inc. 5000 honoree in 2018, and a TEDx speaker. He is a former practice and agancy owner who founded his private practice in 1995, grew it to 4 locations and 250 employees, sold it in 2008, then repurchased the company in 2011. The company has over 300 employees, 11 locations and over $20M in annual revenue. He served as the company President until march 1 2019 when he left to join the leadership at vrtical Companies, a vertically integrated canabis company. He is also Professor of Entrepreneurial Practice at Syracuse University's Whitman School of management where he also serves as Deputy Department Chair and Manager of the MS Entrepreneurship Program. He is an active member of Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and recently finished a 3-year term on the International Board of Directors.
Dr. Torrens is a NYS licensed SLP and a former ASHA member. During his ASHA membership, he was active in volunteer leadership having served on the Continuing Education Board and Professional Services Board. He has co-authored several technical papers and position statements for ASHA in the area of business practices and telepractice; is a contributing author for “Business Matters: A Guide for Speech-Language Pathologists”; and a contributor to the textbook “Professional Issues in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology”.
