Composting at all scales contributes to the production healthy, living soil, which is itself pivotal to thriving landscapes and communities. In her travels, author Judith D. Schwartz has visited many places—from Southern Africa to Mexico to Spain--where a focus on soil and the recycling of nutrients has transformed the environment and enhanced the lives of people who dwell there. These stories offer important lessons as we apply knowledge about the reuse and renewal of organic materials to the task of conserving and regenerating our ecological systems.
