The Creek Fire was reported on December 5, 2017, at 3:44 AM PST, on Kagel Canyon Road, north of Los Angeles and next to the Lopez Canyon Compost Facility.The city government of Los Angeles and state governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency, due to the Creek Fire and other fires in the area.By 4:15the fire had destroyed all of the composting equipment and windrows were on fire. Santa Ana winds were blowing 50-60 mph and all LA Fire Department personnel were protecting area private property. This presentation will describe the conditions of the fire, techniques used to put out the windrows and preventive SOP’s implemented to reduce the impact of future fire events from devastating the Lopez Canyon Compost Facility.
