Consultation Liaison Psychiatrists are often asked to sit on Ethics Committees, Impaired Physician and Adverse Event Review Committees, and provide consultation for the Office of Clinical Affairs, related to experience in understanding relationships, dynamics of organizations and clinical expertise. The cases and problems that come forth for review often have to do with sexual harassment, bullying and boundary transgressions between physician-patient, supervisor-trainee and trainee-patient.
This presentation, through a review of the topic and current research, presentation of cases and expert review, and a discussion of "third rail" issues related to confidentiality, physician rights and complex systemic issues is meant to shine a light on this as yet un-exposed part of our experience and our work as psychiatrists and C-L psychiatrists. We hope that this is the first in an ongoing series of programs directed at self reflection, conversation with colleagues and strategic planning to improve tolerance, respect and safety within our midst and amongst our trainees and colleagues.
