Collaborative Care, Community C-L
Background: At least 30% of patients seen for suicidal ideation or suicide attempt in emergency settings are discharged back into the community. The period following discharge from the emergency department (ED) is known to be one of heightened risk for suicide. We present several means of assessment and intervention to aid in the safer discharge of patients.
Approach: From multiple institutions, multi-disciplinary members of the Emergency Psychiatry SIG describe innovations at various levels of emergency care that aim to improve safety and reduce risk of suicide.
Product: Our general agenda includes case presentation with audience interaction followed by brief talks from SIG members with significant intervening time for discussion and interactive learning.
